The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Espresso Timber was built for the Inspired Expression collection, a 2026 release that puts one idea at the center and lets everything else orbit it. That idea is coffee, and not the polite, dessert-adjacent coffee of vanilla-drowned gourmands. It's the roasted, slightly bitter, almost savory coffee of a fresh pull, the kind that stains the cup. The perfumer treats espresso here less like a flavor and more like a centerpiece, a single dominant accord that shapes the entire composition around its intensity. The supporting cast is deliberately lean: sandalwood for creaminess, tonka bean for that low, sweet warmth underneath. Three notes. One confident arc.
Espresso Timber takes a different approach to the coffee genre by keeping the bean unblended and unsoftened at the top of the pyramid. Arabica sits where most compositions would layer vanilla or caramel, and the structure stays narrow all the way down rather than expanding into a sprawling accord map. Sandalwood in the heart lends creaminess through wood rather than sugar, giving the composition a smooth, almost milky quality that doesn't rely on gourmand shortcuts.
The evolution
The opening is pure arabica, dark and slightly sharp, the way espresso smells before any sweetness reaches the cup. There's a roasted bitterness that sits close to the skin at first, almost aggressive, the way a real shot of espresso feels on the tongue. As the minutes pass, the sandalwood starts arriving, not as a separate layer but as a softening of the coffee itself. The bitterness rounds out. The wood brings a milky, almost nutty quality that makes the coffee feel less like a beverage and more like a scent you could wear to dinner without apology. Eventually the tonka bean settles into place underneath, low and sweet, carrying a faint almond warmth that the coffee can't quite mask. The drydown is where the fragrance finds its second life: the coffee recedes, the sandalwood deepens into something almost resinous, and the tonka holds the whole thing together for the remaining hours.
Cultural impact
Espresso Timber belongs to the Inspired Expression collection, a 2026 release built on a narrow three-note pyramid of arabica coffee, sandalwood, and tonka bean. The composition reflects a willingness to let a single bold ingredient carry the weight of a fragrance without leaning on a dense support structure of secondary accords. The coffee note itself carries cultural familiarity: roasted espresso is a scent most people recognize instantly, from morning rituals to the social geography of cafés.
