The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cologne of Sunny Cherimoya is part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, the part of the catalog where the house takes well-known compositions and offers its own versions. Released in 2025, it draws its cue from Jo Malone's Sunlit Cherimoya, a fragrance built around one of perfumery's more unusual hero ingredients. Cherimoya is a tropical fruit that rarely takes center stage in a composition, which makes it an interesting choice for a scent that leans entirely into one note. Translating something that unfamiliar into a wearable scent is no small ask, and The Dua Brand's approach has been to take these reference points and reinterpret them through a carefully chosen palette of supporting notes.
What makes this composition interesting is how few notes it actually needs. Cherimoya carries a creaminess that most fruits lack, and the supporting cast, bergamot, pear, copaiba balsam, and tonka bean, is chosen specifically to frame that creaminess without smothering it. The bergamot and pear handle brightness and snap. Copaiba balsam brings a soft, woody-warm resin note that bridges the juicy top into the amber-toned base. Tonka bean rounds the whole thing off with its almond-vanilla warmth.
The evolution
On skin, Cologne of Sunny Cherimoya opens with a burst of bergamot and pear, that first five minutes is bright, almost sparkling, with the green sweetness of fresh-cut fruit skin. The cherimoya arrives quickly behind it, and the blend turns creamy without going heavy. Copaiba balsam threads through the middle, adding a warm, slightly woody undertone that keeps the sweetness grounded. By the second hour, the tonka bean has settled in, the bergamot has stepped back, and what remains is a soft, golden warmth, like sun-warmed skin after a day outside. The drydown stays close to the skin, a quiet trail of creamy fruit and soft resin that lingers well into the evening. On fabric the next morning, the tonka and copaiba are still there, faint but present, like the last trace of a good afternoon.
Cultural impact
Cologne of Sunny Cherimoya centers an ingredient that doesn't often get top billing in a fragrance. Cherimoya is a tropical fruit with a creamy, almost custard-like character, and compositions that build around it tend to stand out from the usual lineup of mango, papaya, and coconut. The Dua Brand's version, built around the same reference point as Jo Malone's Sunlit Cherimoya, puts its own spin on the material through a different supporting palette and a lighter overall feel. The result is a composition that takes an unfamiliar fruit seriously as a fragrance ingredient rather than treating it as a passing trend.
