The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Chocolat, Leche, & Vanille Cigarillo in 2024 as part of The Dua Brand's Original Blend Collection. The inspiration reads on the label itself: the creaminess of milk chocolate meeting the smolder of a lit cigarillo, two pleasures that share a language of heat and comfort. The composition draws on the interplay between confection and combustion, building a gourmand that brings tobacco and smoke directly into the formula and gives the sweetness something to push against. Where you might expect a chocolate fragrance to play to the powdery side of cocoa, this one routes the sweetness through smoke, letting the two elements collide in a way that feels closer to leather and embers than to a candy counter. There is a clear point of view here.
What makes this composition worth dissecting is the tension between the lactonic and the smoky. Butter, milk, and praline create a soft, creamy foundation, the kind of warmth that sits close to skin and reads almost edible without tipping into cloying territory. Sandalwood steps in to add a woody backbone that keeps the sweetness from floating away, lending a quiet creaminess of its own that complements rather than competes. Then tobacco and smoke arrive to rough up the edges, introducing a dry, slightly acrid counterpoint that transforms the fragrance from confection into atmosphere.
The evolution
The opening phase is all butter. Rich, almost greasy, the way warm chocolate feels on your fingers. Dark chocolate arrives fast, then praline folds in to thicken the texture. There's a creaminess here that borders on dairy, the milk note doing exactly what it's supposed to do, smoothing out the edges of the cocoa and lending a roundness that keeps the sweetness from feeling sharp. In the early stages, the fragrance reads like the inside of a chocolatier's workshop, all warmth and indulgence with a thick, almost chewy quality. As the composition opens up, the tobacco shows up. It's not subtle, not a whisper in the background, but a full, smoky presence that shifts the entire personality. The smoke note carries a dry, smoldering quality that pulls the chocolate away from dessert and toward something more atmospheric.
Cultural impact
Chocolat, Leche, & Vanille Cigarillo leans harder into the chocolate-and-milk territory that fans of rich, edible compositions crave, and it does so without softening the tobacco to background levels. The fragrance appeals to wearers who want their scent to feel like a statement, not a suggestion. It's the kind of choice that works for someone who already knows what they like and isn't looking to play it safe. The composition doesn't hide behind subtlety or aim for mass-market appeal.
