The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Caramel Floral Affair arrived in 2023 from The Dua Brand, a Los Angeles house that built its reputation on reconstructing the architecture of high-end fragrances for a wider audience. Perfumer Mahsam Raza composed this one as a study in contrast: the indulgent warmth of caramel set against the airy lift of white florals and just-picked fruit. Raza is known at the house for blending gourmand density with floral clarity, and Caramel Floral Affair reads like a deliberate exercise in that balance. Part of the Original Blend Collection, it sits in a catalog that prizes accessible luxury over heritage flex, and the scent itself reflects that ethos: indulgent but unfussy, sweet but grounded.
What separates this from a typical caramel-gourmand is the floral scaffolding holding it up. Jasmine, magnolia, and peony form a white-floral spine that keeps the caramel from collapsing into pure sugar. The fruit on top, orange, blackcurrant, pear, adds a freshness that prevents the blend from feeling like a candle. It's a layered architecture: citrus brightness, floral lift, gourmand warmth, soft musky close. Each tier earns its place, and none of them overstay. The composition earns its classification as an oriental floral precisely because it refuses to commit entirely to dessert.
The evolution
The first spray is bright and almost lifted, orange zest and pear doing the talking while blackcurrant shadows underneath. Within fifteen minutes the white florals rise. Jasmine sharpens, magnolia rounds it, peony softens the edges, and the caramel threads through like a low hum. By the two-hour mark, the fruit has mostly receded. What's left is a warm, golden center: amber, vanilla, musk, and that caramel note which has lost its sharp edge and turned into something mellower, almost butterscotch. On fabric the drydown holds close to eight hours, a gentle sweetness that reads more skin-scent than fragrance. On skin, expect five or six before it becomes a memory of warmth rather than a presence. The caramel outlives everything. Next morning, on a scarf, it still whispers.
Cultural impact
Caramel Floral Affair fits naturally into The Dua Brand's catalog of gourmand-leaning compositions that bring approachable sweetness to the floral-gourmand category. It's the kind of scent that wears easily into everyday life, daytime, casual evenings, the sort of fragrance someone reaches for when they want comfort without complication. Within the brand's range, it stands as a floral-gourmand that lets both sides breathe rather than collapsing into pure sugar, making it a natural entry point for wearers curious about caramel-dominant compositions who still want something airy on top.
