The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Candlelit Fruit Affair in 2025 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a series built around reimagining beloved compositions at a price that doesn't ask for a second thought. The scent draws from a fragrance called Amore Torrido by Salas, translating its warmth into something fruit-forward and accessible. The brief seems simple: take the idea of passion translated through ripe fruit and candlelit warmth, and make it wearable for anyone who wants sweetness without syrup. Bergamot opens the door. Red apple and grapes pour in. Then apricot settles it into something golden, the kind of scent that makes a room feel lit from within rather than from above.
What's interesting here is how the fruit notes are layered, not stacked. The bergamot, red apple, grapes, and apricot don't compete; they pass the plate. Violet and lily of the valley arrive in the heart to soften the sugar, and coconut adds a creamy texture that bridges fruit and the warmer base. Benzoin gives the whole composition its golden undertone, the resinous hum that makes everything feel candlelit rather than daylight-bright. This is a fruity floral with enough amber and resin to earn the 'candlelit' part of its name. The sweetness stays tethered to something warm and slightly powdery, never tipping into candy territory.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are bright and almost fizzy. Bergamot cuts through, then red apple and grapes arrive with their skins still on, sweet but tart. Apricot shows up last in the opening, rounding out the fruit layer with something golden and ripe. As the fruit begins to recede, violet steps forward, powdery and cool, softened by coconut that adds a creamy sweetness without going gourmand. Lily of the valley flutters underneath, giving the heart a translucent quality, like light through wax paper. The violet and coconut sit in a kind of easy conversation, neither one overpowering the other, while the muguet keeps everything lifted and airy. The drydown is where the 'candlelit' earns its name. Benzoin and amber settle in, warm and resinous, turning the fruit sweetness into something quieter and more intimate. The amber doesn't shout; it hums.
Cultural impact
Part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, Candlelit Fruit Affair sits inside a catalog that prioritizes fragrance accessibility and composition quality. The collection reads as an exercise in reinterpretation, taking notes and accords that have earned their place in the broader fragrance conversation and recombining them into something that feels fresh without feeling forced. The fruit-and-amber sweetness gives it a versatility that works across seasons, light enough for warmer weather when the top notes can breathe, rich enough for cooler months when the benzoin and amber get to do their deeper work.
