The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Aura of Roses is The Dua Brand's 2023 interpretation of Lancôme's Idôle Aura, a flanker built around a central rose. The Dua Brand reconstructed the composition as an Extrait de Parfum, amplifying the rose and stretching the longevity past what the original offered. It's part of the house's Inspired Expression / Dua Designer Line, a collection organized around translating well-known scent architectures into The Dua Brand's own formats. Released in 2023, it arrived in a 36 ml bottle, offering the rose character of the Lancôme original with the concentration and presence of an extrait. The reformulation leans into the floral heart of Idôle Aura, turning up the volume on the rose accord and letting it carry through every phase of the wear.
Salt in a floral composition is an unusual structural choice, and it's what gives this composition its particular character. The mineral note does the work a green stem might do in a more traditional rose, but it pulls the scent toward skin, sea air, and warm stone rather than toward a garden. Pairing that with jasmine and vanilla gives the composition a tension between aquatic and intimate. Rose sits at the center, expanded rather than dried out, and the musk base keeps everything in a close orbit.
The evolution
The first few minutes are almost misleading. A bright, almost fizzy salt sits on top, the kind of opening that reads as aquatic and light, like sea spray catching the back of your neck. Then the rose arrives, fuller than expected, and the jasmine threads through it without ever turning indolic or heavy. There's a powdery softness underneath, the accord doing its quiet work. By the second hour, the vanilla and musk have settled into the base, and the salt recedes, leaving a warm, slightly sweet skin scent that lingers. The transition from that initial bright mineral hit to the warmer, denser heart phase is gradual, and the rose never fully disappears from the conversation, even when the vanilla and musk take over the foreground. Nothing dramatic happens in the drydown, but that's the point.
Cultural impact
Aura of Roses sits within The Dua Brand's broader catalog of designer-inspired compositions, a body of work that takes established scent profiles and reworks them through the brand's own lens. The composition offers a rose-forward experience with a mineral current that gives the floral an unexpected edge, and the extrait concentration gives the whole structure more weight than a typical eau de parfum. For wearers who are drawn to rose compositions that don't lean fully into sweetness or traditional green stem territory, this is a fragrance that finds a middle path.
