Why it exists.
The beginning
Elektrou takes its name from the ancient Greek word elekrtou, meaning 'of amber.' Alexandra Balahoutis built this fragrance around that single idea, amber as the substance, amber as the subject. Released as a limited edition in autumn 2010, it arrived in a modest 7ml pure perfume bottle, positioned for someone who wanted to be warm without announcing it. The brief was clear: amber, sandalwood, vanilla. Nothing else needed.
What makes this composition unusual is its restraint. Amber dominates, not the amber of cathedral incense or sweet Oriental bombs, but something quieter, almost mineral. The vanilla and sandalwood don't compete for attention; they support the amber's natural powdery warmth without ever pushing forward. Three notes, but each one earns its place. Balahoutis chose not to build complexity through layering dozens of ingredients. Instead, Elektrou achieves depth through what it leaves out. The amber accord, warm, slightly animalic, faintly balsamic, sits at the center of the composition like a resin that has been glowing in low light for centuries.
The evolution
The opening is amber. Not bergamot, not citrus, not a bright top note to announce arrival, just amber, resinous and immediate. Warm from the first moment, with a faint powdery quality that makes it feel like something ancient and familiar. There's an animalic whisper in the first minutes, the ghost of something alive, but it settles quickly. The vanilla enters quietly, threading through the amber without loudening it. Not the vanilla of ice cream or sunscreen, something deeper, woodier, like the inside of a cedar box. The sandalwood takes longer to arrive, and when it does, it doesn't arrive alone. The drydown is where Elektrou becomes itself. The amber doesn't fade, it deepens, settling into skin like heat retained under clothing. The sandalwood provides a creamy, quiet base, and the vanilla rounds everything into a warmth that persists. On fabric, it lasts into the next day. On skin, the projection stays close, a presence felt in the same room, not announced from across it.

Elektrou is a limited edition, released for autumn and winter 2010, discontinued shortly after.
