A house, in its own words
Markéta Baňková, known in the art world under the pseudonym Markéta Maf, turned her fascination with language and colour into a scent laboratory in Prague. Reportedly, the brand emerged in 2020 after Baňková spent several years experimenting with natural extracts and synthetic aroma molecules in a shared studio space. The first public offering, Narcis Nocturne, appeared in 2021 and was described by niche‑fragrance blogs as a nocturnal reinterpretation of classic narcotic accords. 2023 marked a prolific year: Funky Machine introduced metallic and mechanistic notes, High to Lotus paired aquatic lily with subtle mineral undertones, and Whispering Fields offered a breezy, field‑inspired composition. In 2024 the house released X‑Ray, a fragrance that explores transparent, almost clinical facets of scent, while 2025’s Lovely Problem presented a paradoxical blend of sweet and bitter elements, underscoring the brand’s love of contradiction. Throughout its short history, Space Fluid has remained a micro‑brand, producing limited batches that sell out quickly, a practice that reinforces its artisanal identity. The house operates out of a modest atelier in Prague, where Baňková collaborates with a handful of chemists and visual designers, keeping the creative loop tight and personal. While the brand has not yet opened flagship boutiques, it distributes through a curated network of specialty retailers across Europe and North America, allowing a global audience to encounter its experimental ethos. Space Fluid frames fragrance as an act of pleasure rather than a mere accessory. The founder’s artistic background informs a narrative‑driven approach: each scent is conceived as a short story, a visual tableau translated into aroma. The brand explicitly states that it seeks to merge “old perfumery traditions with modern technology,” a claim that appears on its public statements and is reflected in its use of both classic botanical extracts and contemporary synthetic aroma chemicals. Sustainability and ethical sourcing are cited as core values; the house prefers ingredients harvested within the EU and works with suppliers who follow certified ecological practices. Transparency is another pillar: ingredient lists are published on the website, and the brand encourages consumers to explore the chemistry behind each note. Collaboration also features prominently; Baňková often invites guest artists to contribute visual concepts that accompany new releases, reinforcing the idea that scent, sight, and story belong together. The overall vision is to create moments of focused enjoyment, inviting wearers to pause and experience the scent as a tactile thought.
