The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dominique Ropion and Claire Liégent created Alien Oud Majestueux in 2015. It was a deliberate move: taking the Alien collection's signature jasmine into richer territory, introducing oud as a structural element rather than decoration. The name itself announces the intention, this was built to be grand, to be imposing. Not an evolution of the original so much as a reinterpretation of its possibilities.
The pairing of jasmine and oud is a study in tension. Jasmine brings its sweet, heady warmth. Oud brings resinous depth, a darkness that can tip into animalic territory on the wrong skin. Saffron and cardamom at the top don't ease you in, they announce. Cashmere Wood then does something unexpected: it softens, adds a powdery warmth that keeps the whole composition from becoming heavy-handed. The craft is in that balance, keeping the oud present without letting it dominate, maintaining jasmine's floral character without letting it turn delicate.
The evolution
Saffron hits first. Metallic, almost sharp, the opening announces itself without apology. Cardamom joins within minutes, bringing warmth that steadies the saffron's brightness. The transition to jasmine doesn't erase the spice; it layers over it, sweet against warm. Cashmere Wood arrives next, adding that soft, almost powdery quality that makes the heart feel rich but not heavy. Then the handoff to oud. This is where it earns its name. Resinous, dark, clinging to skin in a way that borders on intimate. The amber underneath keeps everything warm, preventing the oud from tipping into harshness while letting it deepen naturally. The oud doesn't dominate; it integrates, pulling the earlier notes into its orbit and giving them weight. What began as bright spice becomes something more complex, more textured, as the fragrance settles into its darkest phase.
Cultural impact
Alien Oud Majestueux pairs jasmine with oud in a combination that feels unexpected and intentional. Saffron and cardamom, ingredients with deep roots in Middle Eastern perfumery, anchor the composition and give it a particular character that distinguishes it from more conventional Western constructions. The result is a fragrance that speaks to multiple traditions without fully belonging to any single one. This blending creates something that feels both familiar and novel, appealing to those who appreciate aromatic complexity and cultural depth in their perfume choices.
