Why it exists.
The beginning
Motif Olfactif launched Moments in 2021, one of two debuts that year alongside Sérénade. The house was shaped by Oswald Paré's vision for translating lived experience into small-batch compositions, and Moments continues that approach. The fragrance moves beyond a single ingredient or a single place, working instead as an expression of feeling and time. Paré composed it to capture a sense of suspended time, bottling a moment worth preserving before it slips away.
What makes Moments structurally unusual is the way its layers interact. Rum, cognac, ylang-ylang, sandalwood, myrrh, oud, and elderflower appear throughout the composition, creating a structure that resists sharp transitions. Instead, the fragrance reveals itself gradually, each layer reinforcing the one before it. The result is a blend where gourmand warmth sits inside floral and incense architecture, rather than the other way around. The resins, woods, and florals weave together into something cohesive and slow-moving, rewarding patience over quick impressions.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the cognac and rum. There's a boozy sweetness, slightly syrupy, that sits close to the skin and feels almost edible. Then the elderflower absolute lifts the head, adding a green-floral brightness that keeps the opening from going dark too fast. The resins take over. Myrrh and labdanum deepen the warmth. Oak wood and cedarwood arrive underneath, giving the composition a dry, almost furniture-like backbone. Ylang-ylang threads through the heart, creamy and narcotic, stopping the woods from reading austere. The sandalwood smooths everything out. Over the next several hours the boozy sweetness mellows into something closer to vanilla absolute mixed with dried fruit. The drydown is the long, rewarding phase. Oak, sandalwood, vanilla, and a whisper of oud settle into skin and linger with steady presence.
