The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
MITH built its identity on turning personal memories into scent. Founded in Bangkok in 2015, the house operates from a modest studio where founder Chalat Homhual wanted to bottle specific moments rather than chase trends. When Carlos Benaim was briefed on Aqua Blue, his task was to translate a clear morning by the river into liquid form. Benaim is known for precision in his materials, and here he chose juniper berry and turmeric as the opening pair, two ingredients that seem unlikely together until you smell how they create a crisp-yet-warm tension. The goal was never a blue aquatic; it was something more elemental, like standing in cool air while the first light hits the water. Every note in Aqua Blue serves that memory.
The philosophy behind Aqua Blue rests on contrast. Juniper and turmeric are not obvious companions, but they share a certain astringent clarity that makes them work. Lavender and orris root, meanwhile, provide the cushion that keeps the opening from overwhelming. Cedarwood and patchouli finish the fragrance by giving it weight, ensuring it sits close to the skin rather than projecting loudly into a room. This is intentional. MITH designs scents for intimacy, for spaces where only the wearer notices. The note pairing reflects that: nothing here demands attention, but everything rewards it when you lean closer.
The evolution
Aqua Blue begins with juniper berry and turmeric, a pairing that sounds like a contradiction until you experience how the green sharpness of juniper gets tempered by the warm, slightly bitter spice of turmeric. It is like the first breath of morning, cool and clear-headed. The heart arrives as lavender takes center stage, its floral softness cutting through the spice to create calm. Orris root adds a powdery depth that feels like the mist still hanging over the water, not quite gone but fading. By the drydown, cedarwood and patchouli anchor everything, creating a woody base that feels like the riverbank itself, earthy and solid. The evolution moves from sharp to smooth to grounded, never losing the sense of morning clarity that Benaim intended. The fragrance does not evolve dramatically; it settles, like sediment returning to the river floor.
Cultural impact
Since its 2025 debut, Aqua Blue has become a quiet favorite among fans of unisex aromatics, often mentioned alongside the house’s Blue Wood Fresh for its fresh‑aquatic vibe. Its exclusive availability at Icon Siam adds a boutique allure, prompting collectors to seek it out during Bangkok’s summer festivals.
