The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Melvita built Rose - Raspberry from the same instinct that shaped the rest of the house: pull ingredients from identifiable plant origins, let the raw material speak. The brand favors compositions where natural extracts carry the composition rather than synthetic stand-ins. This particular pairing, Bulgarian rose and ripe raspberry at the front, anchored by vanilla and violet, reflects a straightforward botanical approach to perfumery. Nearly 100% of the total ingredients come from natural origin, with the majority certified organic, a meaningful specification for a house built around traceable raw materials. The opening is dewy and slightly tart, raspberry arriving with a candied edge softened immediately by violet's powdery hush.
What makes this composition interesting is the way raspberry sits beside Bulgarian rose without one swallowing the other. The raspberry here acts as a brightening agent, lifting the rose into something more awake, more fruit-forward, before violet and vanilla pull it back to softness. Chamomile and mimosa add a quiet herbal sweetness underneath, an almost hay-like warmth that keeps the whole thing from tipping into candy territory. The interplay between fruit and flower feels less engineered than conversational, each note catching the other at different moments in the wear.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are raspberry, unapologetically. Bright, slightly tart, almost jam-adjacent but with the freshness kept intact by violet just behind it. Bulgarian rose joins the conversation early, not as a heavy soliflore but as a support player, lending depth and a faint green stem quality to the fruit accord. By the thirty-minute mark, chamomile and mimosa settle in underneath, bringing a soft, almost sun-warmed herbal quality that smells like dried flowers in a linen closet. The vanilla begins to surface gradually as the hours pass, rounding off the sharp edges of the fruit and giving the composition a creamier, more intimate feel. Violet's powdery facet becomes more prominent as the raspberry recedes, shifting the scent from fruity to something closer to a vintage face powder, delicate and softly nostalgic.
Cultural impact
Rose - Raspberry occupies an unfussy space in the broader rose-fruity category, the kind of composition that appeals to wearers who want floral without formality. Its natural-origin positioning, nearly 100% of ingredients from natural origin with the majority organic, places it within a growing segment of fragrances that prioritize botanical sourcing. The composition itself reads as gentle and wearable, offering the romantic associations of Bulgarian rose alongside the playful sweetness of ripe raspberry, without leaning heavily toward either extreme.
