Heritage
A house, in its own words
Melvita traces its origins to 1983, when Bernard Chevilliat established the company in Ardèche, a department in south-central France known for its chestnut groves, lavender fields, and rolling hills along the Rhône. Chevilliat built the brand on a foundation of natural cosmetics and beekeeping products, reportedly drawing inspiration from the unspoiled countryside surrounding the early production sites. From these rural beginnings, Melvita expanded steadily through the 1980s and 1990s, growing its catalog of organic-certified personal care products. The fragrance range began to take shape with the launch of floral waters in 2000, including Orange Blossom, Rosa, and Cornflower variants that remain in the line. Over the decades, the house broadened its distribution across France and into international markets, becoming a recognizable name in the natural beauty segment. By the mid-2010s, Melvita continued to release fragrances such as Roses Sauvages in 2015 and L'Or Bio in 2014, signaling an ongoing commitment to botanical perfumery. The Ardèche roots remain central to the brand's identity, distinguishing it from Parisian fragrance houses. Melvita's creative vision is anchored in the belief that effective beauty products can be formulated from ingredients of natural origin without sacrificing quality or sensory pleasure. The house approaches perfumery through a botanical lens, favoring raw ingredients sourced from identifiable plant origins rather than synthetic alternatives. This philosophy extends across the entire catalog, where floral waters, essential oils, and plant extracts form the backbone of each composition. Rather than chasing trends in mainstream perfumery, Melvita focuses on capturing the olfactory character of specific flowers, fruits, and spices, from the bright citrus of Orange Zest to the warm depth of Sweet Vanilla and Genuine Patchouli. The brand's stance positions fragrance not as a luxury indulgence separate from wellness, but as an extension of a broader lifestyle oriented toward natural ingredients. This integrative thinking shapes product development at every level, from formulation choices to packaging decisions.
