The beginning
Cigar Bar arrived in 2023 as part of Max Philip's Private Collection, and the composition wastes no time establishing its premise. Rather than replicate tobacco outright, the fragrance opens with aged tobacco leaf and whisky, two materials that carry the room's entire atmosphere in a single note. The tobacco here reads as cured and slightly fermented, the kind of depth that comes from leaves that have been aged long enough to lose their raw greenness. The whisky adds a boozy warmth, a fermented sweetness that suggests oak and grain without ever tipping into cocktail territory. Together they set the stage with unusual directness, bypassing the bright citrus or herbal openings that typically greet a wearer at first spray. There's no preamble, no cautious introduction.
The structure is deliberately short. Two top notes, two heart notes, one base. That minimalism is the point. Tobacco and whisky lead the top, musk and vanilla soften the landing in the heart, and sandalwood anchors everything beneath in the base. The smoky, sweet, spicy, woody, resinous accord reads like a genre description for an entire category of masculine fragrance, but the execution here leans drier than most.
