The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Amyris Femme Extrait de Parfum arrived in 2019 as the concentrated expression of a fragrance that had already found its audience. Kurkdjian returned to the pairing that defined the original, amyris from Jamaica and iris from Florence, and pushed both materials deeper. The result is a composition that takes the bright, urban elegance of the EDP and holds it under pressure, letting the nuances breathe at their own pace. This is the version for people who wanted more: more presence, more complexity, more time with it on skin.
What makes the Extrait format matter here is the relationship between amyris and iris. Amyris, sometimes called West Indian sandalwood for its creamy, slightly balsamic character, has a natural warmth that iris powdery sweetness can amplify or temper depending on concentration. Kurkdjian chose the latter: a pairing where the iris keeps the amyris from going flat, and the amyris keeps the iris from going too far into violet-powder territory. Jasmine absolute, not listed in the core pyramid but present in the brand's own copy, threads through the heart as a floral connector, rounding the bouquet without competing with it. It's a quiet bit of craftsmanship, easy to miss on first wear.
The evolution
The opening is immediate: lemon blossom and orange hit bright and clean, the kind of citrus that reads as morning rather than sharp. It doesn't announce itself, it just arrives. Within twenty minutes the heart takes over. Amyris and iris unfold together, jasmine absolute lending a soft floral warmth that rounds what could have been a sharper composition. The drydown is where the Extrait earns its name. Ambergris and vetiver settle in close to the skin, woody and slightly saline, holding the floral sweetness in place long after most fragrances would have dissolved. Eight to ten hours on most skin. The next morning, a faint warmth on a cuff or collar, that's the amyris, still present, still intimate.
Cultural impact
Amyris Femme found its audience quickly for the way it captured something specific: the feeling of Parisian morning light, translated into a wearable composition. The Extrait followed in 2019, deepening the materials that made the original distinctive. For collectors, this is the version sought after the EDP empties, more presence, more nuance, more time.
