The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Following the 2017 debut of Lovely U, Liu Jo expanded the Lovely Collection with Lovely Me in 2018. The name itself is an invitation: discover yourself, celebrate yourself. The Italian fashion house built its fragrance line around accessible luxury, creating scents that reflect contemporary femininity without the preciousness of niche perfumery. Lovely Me translates that philosophy into something bright, warm, and unapologetically sweet.
The note structure here is more interesting than it first appears. White florals often live or die by their tuberose, and Lovely Me leans into it hard. The jasmine and orange blossom don't compete with the tuberose, they support it, creating a heart that reads as lush and almost confectionery. The real surprise is the base: popcorn as a grounding element. It's salty, it has that buttery dimension, and it keeps the florals from floating into abstraction. Ambroxan adds warmth without the heaviness of traditional amber. Cedarwood gives it just enough structure to feel grounded rather than syrupy.
The evolution
The opening announces itself quickly, apple and raspberry hit within the first spray, with bergamot adding a citrus brightness that keeps everything from cloying. Within the first hour, the jasmine and orange blossom arrive to soften the edges. The tuberose takes its time but when it settles, it settles deep. By the second hour, the heart is fully in control and the base begins its slow reveal. The popcorn note emerges around the two-hour mark, adding that unexpected salty-buttery warmth that defines the drydown. Cedarwood and ambroxan linger for hours after, but the salt fades early. The florals eventually quiet into something powdery and close to the skin, a whisper, not a shout.
Cultural impact
Lovely Me sits comfortably in the accessible luxury space, the kind of fragrance a fashion-conscious woman might discover while browsing a department store and feel good about without overthinking it. The popcorn note is unusual enough to generate conversation among fragrance enthusiasts, but mainstream enough that it doesn't alienate. It's been compared to Ari by Ariana Grande in its sweet, approachable florals, though Lovely Me has more depth in the base. The 2018 launch placed it squarely in the era of sweet Gourmand florals, when brands were leaning into that youthful, playful femininity. It doesn't try to be anything other than what it is: a warm, sweet, confident scent for women who love fashion but don't take themselves too seriously.
