Why it exists.
The beginning
Linda Landenberg built Lavender & Wool as part of her 2017 collection, a release that introduced her eponymous label. The composition takes its title literally: lavender and the textured warmth of wool, the two materials rendered in their most evocative forms. French lavender and Provençal lavender form the floral register, supported by balsam fir and Virginia cedarwood that supply a resinous, coniferous character evoking the fiber of a heavy knit. It is a fragrance about tactility, about what a scent feels like before it even reaches the skin. The accord behaves less like a traditional floral and more like a material study, where each ingredient is chosen for its textural implication rather than its aromatic category alone.
What makes the construction unusual is the collision between gourmand and herbal territory. Chocolate appears prominently alongside French lavender, black pepper, and cardamom, creating an opening that reads as both edible and aromatic at once. Milk introduces a lactonic creaminess that softens the sharper spice edges, preventing the composition from reading as austere. The evolution
The opening moves with intention. Chocolate and lavender absolute land together in the first minutes, sharpened by black pepper and cardamom into something almost confectionery but with a bitter edge. The Provençal lavender and milk eventually arrive, softening the spice into a rounder, creamier register.
