Heritage
A house, in its own words
The story of Le Prince Jardinier begins with Louis Albert de Broglie, a French nobleman whose passion for gardening and nature became the foundation of an entire lifestyle brand. De Broglie first became involved in gardening-related endeavors in 1991, developing his vision before officially founding the brand in 1995. The brand operates today under Deyrolle SAS, a company whose own heritage traces back to 1831 when Jean-Baptiste Deyrolle opened his eponymous shop in Paris. Deyrolle became renowned as an entomology destination, creating a space dedicated to the study and appreciation of nature. This connection between Le Prince Jardinier and Deyrolle brought together two traditions united by their reverence for the natural world, one focused on cultivating gardens and the other on understanding and preserving nature's specimens. The perfumery arm of Le Prince Jardinier emerged from this intersection of botanical passion and French heritage. Late perfumer Yuri Gutsatz originally founded the fragrance house component, creating thousands of formulae from which four signature scents were eventually selected for production. Gutsatz, who also established Le Jardin Retrouve, had a storied career in perfumery before his passing. Le Prince Jardinier represents a natural extension of de Broglie's broader interests, bringing garden-inspired sophistication to every aspect of daily life, from outdoor furnishings to scented candles to fine fragrances. The brand's positioning alongside the Palace of Versailles and its collaborations with heritage partners reinforce its place within French luxury traditions of artisanship and refinement. Le Prince Jardinier approaches fragrance as an extension of the garden experience, translating the sensory pleasure of outdoor spaces into portable, wearable form. The brand philosophy centers on bringing the joy and tranquility of garden living into all aspects of life, whether one is tending to plants or simply wearing a signature scent. Nature serves as both teacher and muse, with gardens providing the inspiration and raw material for olfactory exploration. The brand treats each fragrance as a horticultural exercise in miniature, composing scents with the same care a gardener might apply to planning a flower bed or selecting complementary plantings. This philosophy rejects the separation between refined interior life and natural exterior pursuits, instead finding harmony between the two. Le Prince Jardinier believes that luxury and nature are not opposing forces but rather complementary elements that, when brought together thoughtfully, create experiences of genuine richness. The brand's perfumery approach favors botanical clarity and natural inspiration over synthetic abstraction, seeking to capture recognizable garden elements like citrus groves, rose borders, orchid collections, and woodland trails. This grounded connection to actual garden experiences gives the fragrances a particular quality of authenticity, grounding abstract scent compositions in tangible horticultural reality.
