Isabelle Doyen
Isabelle Doyen entered the perfume world by scenting the prints she sold in a tiny Paris shop. The encounter sparked a lifelong devotion to scent. She earned her diploma from ISIPCA in 1982 and immediately joined her teacher Monique Schlienger, where she honed the craft of blending natural extracts with synthetics. At twenty‑six she met Annick Goutal, whose fledgling house welcomed Isabelle as a creative partner. Together they shaped the early collections that defined the brand’s poetic identity. After a decade of success, she accepted a professorship at ISIPCA, where she guided a generation of noses, including Francis Kurkdjian and Mathilde Laurent. Today she works as an independent perfumer, consulting for niche houses and continuing to write fragrant stories that echo her early love of art and aroma.

How Isabelle composes
Isabelle favors a transparent structure that lets each ingredient speak. She builds foundations with classic French absolutes—jasmine, rose, and labdanum—then weaves in unexpected accents such as smoked cedar, ambergris, or a hint of metallic ion. She often layers a soft powdery veil of iris or violet over a warm woody base, creating depth without heaviness. Her technique includes slow maceration, allowing the components to meld naturally before final adjustment. She prefers natural extracts when they convey nuance, but she does not shy away from modern synthetics that add precision.
Philosophy
What drives Isabelle
Isabelle believes that scent should echo memory and emotion, not merely decorate the skin. She starts each brief by recalling a visual or tactile impression, then translates that feeling into aroma. She respects the balance between tradition and invention, insisting that every accord honor its raw material before it meets the laboratory. Her work honors the quiet moments that shape a life, and she strives to capture them in a bottle that invites the wearer to pause and reflect. She measures success by the quiet smile a fragrance draws from a familiar heart.
