The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lineam marks a departure from the darker register that defines much of the line. Where Black Oud leaned into smoke and resin, this fragrance reaches for something warmer, something closer. The idea was a comfort worth wearing: praline, rum, popcorn, vanilla. The kind of sweetness that doesn't apologize for itself. No single note dominates. The composition earns its name through the way each layer hands off to the next, a confection that behaves like a fragrance because the structure says so. There's an ease to how the sweetness unfolds, a buttery warmth that lingers without cloying.
What makes Lineam interesting isn't any single note, it's the combination of popcorn and myrrh in the heart. Myrrh brings a faintly medicinal, resinous depth that tempers the popcorn's food-like warmth. The result sits between savory and sweet, which is harder to wear than either extreme. Praline and rum in the top play a similar game: sweetness with a kick, alcohol without the burn. The base is where the depth really settles. Vanilla absolute and Siam benzoin together create a resin-vanilla that feels rich and enveloping. This isn't a fragrance that announces itself from across the room.
The evolution
The opening announces itself clearly: praline, rum, candied fruits. The citron and bergamot give it a brief citrus lift before the sweetness takes over. That citrus doesn't linger, it knows its job is done in the first few minutes. The heart is where it gets interesting. Floral notes soften the composition while popcorn adds a buttery, slightly savory quality that some people read as food and others read as warmth. Myrrh is present but behaves itself, it deepens rather than competes. The drydown is the payoff. Vanilla absolute and Siam benzoin together create something resinous and warm, not powdery. Musk keeps it skin-close. The projection stays intimate, close enough to invite someone in rather than announce your presence.
Cultural impact
Laurent Mazzone built Lineam around the idea that fragrance can trigger memory through edible, dessert-like warmth rather than traditional floral or woody accords. Praline and rum as anchor notes represent a shift toward gourmand territory, with candied fruits and bright citron keeping it from feeling like pure sugar. The complexity appeals to both newcomers and seasoned fragrance lovers, offering an accessible sweetness that doesn't sacrifice depth.
