The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Island Blossom emerged from the Korres laboratory in 2015, co-created by George Korres, Lena Korres, and Adilson Rato. The composition opens with Sicilian lemon, bright and assertive, cutting through the air like morning light hitting sea spray. There's an immediacy to it, a citrus punch that doesn't whisper but speaks clearly. Beneath this, freesia adds a whisper of cool floral that tempers the sharpness without softening it entirely. The blend avoids heaviness, steering clear of the cloying sweetness that can weigh down island fragrances. What remains is something crisp, something that smells like open air and green growing things. It's a fragrance that captures brightness without tipping into synthetic cleanliness, the kind of scent that makes you notice the space around you.
Sicilian lemon carries weight here, it's not the timid citrus of background brightness but a genuine structural element. Freesia gets positioned to do quiet work rather than shout. The sugar note is barely there, just enough to keep everything from sharpening into astringency. This is a restrained composition. The kind that asks: what if an island blossom didn't try to smell like every other island blossom? The lemon doesn't fade into the background as it often does in citrus florals. Instead, it holds its ground, providing an architectural backbone that the other notes respond to.
The evolution
The opening hits bright, Sicilian lemon first, sharp and immediate. Thirty seconds in, the freesia slides alongside it. Not powdery. Not sweet. Just present, like a room you've walked into where someone left flowers. The freesia becomes dominant as the lemon recedes slightly, though it remains readable beneath, a foundation that keeps the scent grounded. Sugar keeps things from drying out, adding a subtle warmth that prevents the composition from becoming too austere. As time passes, the fragrance gentles, the citrus softening while the floral element persists. The drydown is skin-warm, barely there, the kind of trace that makes someone lean closer without knowing why. It's a scent that evolves throughout the day, revealing different facets as hours pass, inviting repeated discovery.
Cultural impact
Island Blossom stands among Korres offerings in the citrus-floral space, alongside compositions like Cashmere Kumquat and Vanilla Freesia. Compared to these, Island Blossom reads lighter and more citrus-forward, with a brightness that sets it apart. The fragrance has found its place among those who appreciate crisp, clean scents with a floral undertone that doesn't overwhelm. It's the kind of scent that feels at home in daylight hours, its structure built around clear, distinct notes that remain coherent throughout wear.
