The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Oudgasm collection exists because Mona Kattan believes oud has its own universe, transformative, transportive, unlike anything else. One fragrance couldn't hold it all. So she broke it into facets, each exploring a different side of the material. Café Oud | 19, launched in 2023, is the coffee-forward facet, oud reimagined for the morning ritual rather than the evening ceremony. Perfumer Hamid Merati-Kashani built it around cappuccino and bergamot, letting the warmth of the café infiltrate the depth of the oud from the first spray.
The genius here is the contrast: cappuccino's milky softness against oud's resinous weight. Bergamot and mandarin orange lift the opening, keeping it bright before the coffee deepens. Geranium and damask rose introduce a quiet prettiness, the kind that makes oud approachable for people who usually steer clear. The tension between cozy and elegant is where this fragrance lives. It's warm without being heavy, aromatic without being sharp. Bourbon vanilla in the base sweetens the oud just enough to keep it wearing close, while patchouli and white musk extend the experience without ever letting it turn loud.
The evolution
The opening hits aromatic and bright, bergamot and mandarin cutting through the cappuccino's cream. For the first 30 minutes, there's a push-pull between citrus brightness and milky warmth. Neither wins. Then the rose arrives, and with it, the oud starts to deepen. The geranium keeps things green and slightly medicinal even as the sweetness builds. By the heart, you're in powdery, floral territory, the coffee has softened, the oud has grown. The drydown is where the oud finally settles into its full self. Bourbon vanilla wraps around it like warm milk. Patchouli adds earth. White musk keeps it clean. Six to eight hours, close to the skin. The kind of longevity that earns its intensity.
Cultural impact
The Oudgasm collection leans into oud's most transportive qualities, the idea that this ingredient exists in its own universe. Café Oud | 19 takes that concept in an unexpected direction, using cappuccino and vanilla to soften the oud rather than amplify it. It's the accessible entry point for a collection built on intensity.
