The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Kajal's Kolada was born from the spirit of the Pina Colada, that classic permission slip to slow down and believe that somewhere the breeze is warm and the drinks are cold. Perfumer Antoni Cabal translated this idea into olfactory form, creating a scent that speaks to both tropical escape and modern wearability. The house's commitment to material authenticity means every note here serves the narrative rather than existing as filler.
Kajal selected each note to serve the Kolada narrative. Pineapple and coconut anchor the tropical aspiration while bergamot prevents sweetness from overwhelming. Lily of the valley and violet add unexpected softness that elevates the composition beyond simple fruit cocktail territory. Siam benzoin brings the resinous depth that gives the fragrance its staying power, ensuring the memory of warmth lingers.
The evolution
The scent journey begins with pineapple and bergamot hitting the skin like the first sip of a cold drink on a hot day. Fruity notes layer in, creating an almost effervescent quality that feels immediate and joyful. Within minutes, the heart emerges as lily of the valley and violet arrive, their soft floral presence shifting the energy from playful to contemplative. The drydown marks a distinct change in register as amber and coconut take over, wrapping the wearer in warmth. Siam benzoin lingers longest, a resinous signature that extends the experience well beyond initial application.
Cultural impact
Kolada occupies a distinct space in the niche fragrance world, a tropical and accessible scent that offers something gentler within a collection known for bolder work. It wears well in warm weather, which is when the coconut and pineapple truly come alive, and it suits a specific mood: casual, relaxed, quietly confident. The fragrance has been compared to leisure scents and white coco interpretations, a signal that it reads as wearable rather than challenging. Kolada's restraint makes it notable.
