The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Astrodome belongs to The Dome Collection, Hamidi's line of architectural tributes. The original Houston Astrodome earned its name by being the first fully enclosed stadium in the world, a marvel of mid-century engineering that changed what a building could be. Hamidi took that spirit of bold, enclosed ambition and translated it into scent. The result is a fragrance that opens like a crowd settling in, fresh and anticipatory, then closes around you like a dome. Built in 2023, it carries the collection's reverence for structure and permanence into a modern aromatic composition.
The note structure is where Astrodome earns its name. Juniper and lavender form an unusual opening, botanical and almost medicinal, before the heart adds nutmeg and Spanish labdanum. That labdanum choice is the tell. It's sticky, resinous, a material more common in traditional Oriental perfumery than in aromatic compositions. Here it brings unexpected warmth and texture, turning what could have been a straightforward fresh fragrance into something with real tension. Orange blossom floats quietly beneath, keeping the florals minimal but present. The base of woody notes, musk, and patchouli is where Hamidi's Oriental heritage shows through most clearly, giving the drydown a warmth that lingers close to skin.
The evolution
Juniper arrives first, cutting through with its botanical sharpness. Lemon follows, bright and immediate. The opening lasts about five minutes before the lavender settles in, cooler and cleaner than expected. By the ten-minute mark, nutmeg begins to surface, bringing a subtle spice that wasn't there before. The handoff from top to heart takes roughly fifteen minutes. Nutmeg and labdanum dominate the heart, with the resinous warmth of labdanum anchoring everything while orange blossom drifts quietly beneath. Two hours in, the woody-musky base takes over. Patchouli and musk create something skin-close, intimate, the kind of drydown that only the wearer notices. Projection fades noticeably after the first hour, settling into something moderate and personal. On fabric, the base notes persist into the next day, faint but present.
Cultural impact
Astrodome occupies a specific space in the fragrance landscape: aromatic-fresh with enough woody and musky depth to feel substantive. The combination of Spanish labdanum and nutmeg gives it a distinctive character that sets it apart from typical fresh fragrances. Since its 2023 launch, it's found its audience among wearers who want something with real aromatic complexity without heaviness. The fragrance doesn't project aggressively. It works through character rather than volume. That restraint has earned it a following among people who are tired of the typical fresh fragrance playbook.
