The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says everything. Nectar de Costa Rica is a limited 2024 release from Escada that pulls its inspiration directly from one of the world's most lush, biodiverse places, a country where vibrant fruit notes and tropical florals fill the air with an intoxicating sweetness that feels both exotic and inviting. The house, founded near Munich in 1976 by Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley, has long traded in bright optimism and vivid color. This fragrance takes that energy and points it squarely at the tropics, no hedging, no restraint, just the abundance of a place where the fruit hangs heavy and the air smells like somewhere worth flying toward.
What makes this composition unusual is how the top notes are given room to breathe. Mango and pineapple are both bold materials, individually, each can tip into candy or artificial territory. Here, they arrive together and somehow balance each other: the mango brings a ripe, almost lactonic warmth while the pineapple keeps things sharp and juicy. The jasmine and orange blossom in the heart are quiet by design, threading in elegance without competing with the fruit up front. It's a composition that trusts its opening and doesn't rush to get to the serious part.
The evolution
The opening is immediate and tropical, mango first, pineapple arriving half a step behind. For the first 20 minutes you're somewhere with fruit trees and open windows. No subtlety. No apology. Then the jasmine and orange blossom begin to surface, softening the sweetness just as it threatens to overwhelm. By the 45-minute mark the florals have taken the wheel, and the composition smells less like fruit and more like something that belongs on skin, warm, feminine, a little softer. The drydown is cedar and musk: clean, woody, quiet. It stays close. The sillage is modest, which makes it ideal for everyday wear, a fragrance that greets you and those nearby without announcing itself to the entire room. Reapply without guilt if you want to build that presence, but there is something elegant about letting it fade to a skin-level whisper as the hours pass.
Cultural impact
Escada has built its identity around bright, accessible fragrances that capture seasonal optimism, and Nectar de Costa Rica fits squarely within that tradition. The limited-edition status gives it a collectible appeal within the brand's broader portfolio, the kind of release that longtime fans seek out and newcomers discover with delight. Worn best in spring and summer, the kind of fragrance that shows up when the temperature does. There is something deeply wearable about this scent, a tropical character that feels appropriate for daytime without ever veering into gimmickry.
