The beginning
Mukhallat M - AlMehdar is a 2026 release from Elixir Attar, a perfume house with Perfumer: Ahmed Mostafa credited on the composition. AlMehdar sits inside the brand's signature collection, and the name itself signals a mukhallat, an Arabic term for a blended attar composition. Built around one of the most storied materials in Gulf perfumery, the fragrance leans on oud, and specifically Manipur oud, a sourcing choice that carries weight in Arabian fragrance circles. Three notes carry the whole composition: nutmeg, rose, and the oud itself. Nutmeg brings the warmth. Rose threads through as the connective tissue. Nothing ornamental, no supporting cast of amber or vanilla to pad the structure.
Manipur oud carries an unusual profile that rewards attention. Less barnyard, more resinous warmth, with a medicinal edge that reads closer to incense than to smokehouse. That quality gives the composition its center of gravity, and pairing it with rose rather than the more common saffron or amber backdrop lifts the structure out of the expected Arabian template. Nutmeg serves as the hinge, bright enough to open the scent, dry enough to keep the oud honest through the middle. The restraint is the point.
The evolution
The first twenty minutes are nutmeg, plain and simple, a warm dusting of spice over the oud's resinous depth. Not sharp, not harsh. More like the heat that rises off a wooden chest just opened. Rose arrives not as a bloom but as a whisper, threading through the spice without ever announcing itself as the lead. The rose here behaves like connective tissue rather than centerpiece, present enough to register, quiet enough to never demand attention. Sillage moderates after the first hour. Cultural impact
AlMehdar earns attention through its Manipur oud sourcing and its willingness to stop at three notes. Most compositions in the genre reach for amber, vanilla, and musk to round out their structure, but this one refuses that template entirely. The Manipur oud gives the composition its specific character, a profile that reads more resinous and incense-like than smoky or animalic, and the rose and nutmeg exist to frame that profile rather than mask it. It reads as a perfumer trusting the materials rather than the formula.
