The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Miss Dior Essence represents a pivotal reinterpretation within one of perfume's most storied lineages. For 2025, Dior enlisted Francis Kurkdjian, the nose behind countless modern classics, to revisit the jasmine heart that anchored the original 1947 Miss Dior. Kurkdjian's approach introduced a jammy blackberry-black elder accord alongside the jasmine, creating a composition that bridges heritage with a contemporary sensibility. The result captures the essence of the house's most iconic fragrance while pushing its olfactory language forward. The interplay between the fruity notes and the floral heart gives the scent a layered complexity that feels both familiar and entirely new.
The structure pairs blackberry and jasmine in a way that creates unexpected harmony. The fruit lends sweetness that makes the jasmine feel rounder and more accessible, while the jasmine gives the fruit something more serious to lean against. Black elder adds a green floral nuance that prevents the composition from tipping into pure fruitiness. The woody oak base anchors the florals with a weight that brings a dry, deliberate quality to the overall blend.
The evolution
The opening presents the blackberry and jasmine simultaneously, their qualities mingling from the first spray. There's an immediate brightness from the jammy blackberry, paired with the waxy, tropical bloom of jasmine sambac. The black elder adds a green floral nuance that softens the edges of the blackberry, keeping the top notes from becoming purely fruity. As the fragrance develops, the jasmine takes on a fuller, more prominent role, its richness coming forward with body and presence. The woody oak base begins to assert itself, lending a structural quality that holds the composition together. In the drydown, the oak emerges more distinctly, providing a dark, dry foundation while the jasmine lingers within it, its sweetness quieter and more intimate than in the opening.
Cultural impact
As a limited edition of 50 numbered bottles, Miss Dior Essence by Maison Février occupies a distinctive position. The Maison Février bottle, with its hand-crafted feather marquetry bow, elevates the object itself into a piece of couture craftsmanship. The jasmine and oak structure positions the fragrance within a Dior tradition of opulent florals, while the blackberry accord adds a contemporary edge that distinguishes it from more classic interpretations. This is a fragrance that appeals to collectors and enthusiasts seeking something exceptional from a storied house.
