The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Rivières de Cartier collection speaks in water, each fragrance a different current, a different current of thought. Luxuriance arrived in 2021 as the wilder tributary. Mathilde Laurent drew inspiration from aromatic traditions, building the fragrance around a foundation of mastic and geranium. Oak and wild herbs add depth and complexity to the composition. The result feels substantial and intentional, a scent with presence that lingers in memory long after application.
The fougère structure is ancient perfumery territory, lavender, coumarin, oakmoss, a certain barbershop polish that's been done for a century. What Luxuriance does differently is simple and radical: it puts oak front and center, not as a base note you catch on a wrist at the end of the day, but as an active participant in every phase. The herbal notes aren't decorative, rosemary and geranium actually argue with each other in the heart, fern adding structure without sweetness. Mastic brings a Mediterranean resinous quality that keeps the drydown from becoming soapy. And the pistachio in the heart? Unexpected. A quiet nutty warmth that stops the green notes from becoming austere.
The evolution
The opening arrives fast, a wave of wild herbs and rosemary, sharp and immediate. Fern announces itself within seconds, a green freshness that doesn't wait for permission. The geranium opens up as the herbal brightness settles, its rosy edge threading through the fern and oak that are building beneath. Thirty minutes in, the heart is fully formed: fern-forward, herbaceous, with the mastic lending a resinous Mediterranean weight that most green fragrances miss entirely. Oak begins its slow takeover around the two-hour mark, dry, woody, unapologetic. The drydown is where Luxuriance earns its name. Oak dominates, but the mastic lingers, and the fern never fully disappears. A quiet green shadow that stays close to the skin for hours.
Cultural impact
Part of the Rivières de Cartier collection, Luxuriance stands apart with its green aromatic character. The herbal and oak notes create a distinctive impression that avoids the typical aquatic or citrus conventions. Wearers often note the organic quality of the scent, describing it as natural and unpretentious. The fragrance has resonated with those who appreciate its grounded, confident approach to green fragrance.
