The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2015, Christopher Bailey and Francis Kurkdjian distilled the original EDP's concept into a lighter, brighter interpretation. Arriving in summer, the EDT was crafted to capture spring's fresh floral essence rather than evening's depth. The bottle design reflects the brand's heritage, featuring a substantial cap with subtle details reminiscent of trench coat elements, and a hand-tied gabardine bow referencing the signature fabric. The design translates the iconic trench coat into glass form.
Sweet pea is the unusual choice here. It doesn't shout like citrus or declare like jasmine, it's powdery, green, with a softness that bridges the top and heart notes. Combined with lemon blossom, it creates an opening that feels like morning dew rather than perfume. The heart of peony and freesia brings the romantic depth, but it's the white moss in the base that keeps the whole composition grounded. Not aquatic, not green, something in between that reads as "just been rained on."
The evolution
The scent opens with a bright, clean character where sweet pea and lemon blossom create a dewy, rain-kissed floral quality. Crisp citrus prevents the fragrance from feeling overly soft. After approximately 20 minutes, florals emerge with freesia adding a green, slightly peppery lift and peony introducing velvety richness without excessive sweetness. The heart develops into an extended phase of subtle, non-overpowering florals. The drydown reveals damask rose and white moss, creating a quiet, skin-close warmth. White moss maintains a fresh, slightly damp quality throughout the fragrance's progression.
Cultural impact
The 2015 launch featured prominent models, positioning the fragrance as an accessible yet refined interpretation of the brand's signature aesthetic. It offers a fresher approach compared to the deeper EDP, bringing a uniquely British interpretation of garden-inspired scent design. The fragrance narrative reflects a carefully crafted vision of garden-inspired elegance.
