A house, in its own words
Botanicae emerged in the late 2010s from the vision of Salvador Montesinos, a perfumer‑entrepreneur who wanted to bring a handcrafted approach to Spain’s growing niche market. Reportedly founded in 2019, the house began with a modest studio in Madrid and a handful of experimental blends. Early releases such as Patio (2019) and Matin a Mogador (2019) set the tone: clear, botanical narratives presented in simple, recyclable packaging. In 2020 the brand introduced Susurro del Bosque, a composition that quickly earned mentions in independent fragrance blogs for its nuanced pine and moss accord. The following years saw a steady cadence of releases – Taro (2023), Melodía Cítrica (2024) and The Swan (2025) – each accompanied by limited‑run samplers that reinforced the label’s focus on discovery. By 2025 Botanicae had expanded its distribution to boutique retailers across Europe while keeping production volumes low enough to maintain quality control. Milestones include the launch of a dedicated “Expressions” line in 2022, which groups scents by thematic families, and a partnership with a Spanish sustainable glass supplier in 2023 that reduced the brand’s carbon footprint. Throughout its evolution, Botanicae has remained anchored to its original promise: to keep artistic perfumery accessible without the noise of mass‑market marketing. The house’s creative vision rests on the idea that a scent should act as a quiet companion rather than a loud proclamation. Botanicae’s founders speak of “keeping a destiny inside a jar,” a phrase that reflects their belief that each fragrance carries a purpose, a memory, or a place. Sustainability is woven into that philosophy; the brand sources raw botanical extracts from certified growers in Spain and Portugal, and it favors natural amber and plant‑based fixatives over synthetic alternatives when possible. Transparency guides the creative process: ingredient lists are published on the website, and the team often shares field notes from harvest trips. Rather than chasing trends, Botanicae lets the character of each raw material dictate the composition, allowing the perfume to evolve organically in the lab. This approach has earned the label praise from niche‑fragrance reviewers who note the “honest, unforced” quality of its scents. The brand also encourages a personal relationship with fragrance, suggesting that wearers experiment with layering and that each bottle can serve multiple moods over time.
