The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Roberth Sertório created Serena in 2012. The fragrance carries a name that evokes a sense of composure and self-assurance. Sertório approached the composition with a focus on creating something that would linger in memory rather than dominate a space. The result is a scent that exists quietly but leaves a lasting impression, a fragrance that speaks softly while still making its presence known.
The structure here is quietly complex. Wild berries and mandarin orange deliver an immediate sweetness, a bright fruity opening that grounds the heavier florals that follow. Gardenia finds its counterweight in jasmine sambac and honeysuckle, creating a heart that is floral without being powdery or shrill. The base is where the gourmand enters: praline and amber warm the composition, while white musk keeps everything smooth and cohesive. A lactonic quality, that milky skin-warm note, is present without ever tipping into something heavy, adding depth without overwhelming the composition.
The evolution
Serena opens bright and alive. The wild berries hit first with their juicy tartness, followed quickly by mandarin orange bringing a clean citrus pop. Gardenia arrives within minutes, softening the citrus edge and introducing the creamy floral heart. The heart itself unfolds gradually: jasmine sambac and honeysuckle layer in, creating a sweetness that deepens rather than fades. As the composition develops, the praline and amber base begins to assert itself, and the fragrance transforms into something warmer and more intimate. White musk becomes more prominent, blending the gourmand warmth into something softer and more subdued. The scent evolves throughout wear, with the floral and gourmand elements intermingling as time passes, creating a layered and nuanced experience.
Cultural impact
Serena arrived as a fragrance that emphasizes personal resonance over heritage and status. The 2012 launch offered an alternative approach to scent, appealing to wearers who prioritize mood and individual connection over traditional markers of luxury. Avatum's direction emphasizes invitation and openness, and Serena reflects this broader brand philosophy.
