Why it exists.
The beginning
L arrived in 2006 from Apothia, a fragrance house with a clear point of view on what a modern scent should feel like. The brief was simple: something immediately wearable, no decoding required. Perfumer Yann Vasnier built L around a violet leaf and juniper berry opening that reads as cool and green, almost aquatic, before dropping into a warm, musky base of sandalwood, amber, and orris root. The violet leaf carries a green, slightly metallic crispness that cuts cleanly through the air upon first application, while juniper berry adds a subtle bitter resin that keeps things refreshingly direct. As the opening settles, the amber begins to glow underneath, lending a golden warmth to the composition.
What makes L interesting structurally is the tension between its cool opening and its warm drydown.
