The Story
Why it exists.
Jérôme Epinette, working with the Robertet house, built Botanic Whisper in 2014 as part of And Other Stories' early fragrance expansion. The brief was simple: translate the brand's editorial sensibility into something you could wear. Not a statement piece. A layer. Coriander, tangerine, and grapefruit opened the composition, a green-citrus bridge between the label's clean aesthetic and something with more depth. The white florals arrived next, gardenia and magnolia, followed by ylang-ylang to carry them into warmer territory. Black plum anchored the base. The result was neither fully fresh nor fully warm, something in between, the way most interesting things are.

The Beginning
The note structure earns attention for what it holds together. Coriander is rarely a top-note anchor in mainstream body mists, it adds a green, almost peppery quality that tangerine and grapefruit don't supply on their own. Pairing that with gardenia and magnolia, both creamy white florals, creates a tension: the coriander keeps things sharp while the heart wants to soften everything in sight. Ylang-ylang bridges the two, its tropical sweetness pulling the green edge toward warmth rather than letting it dominate. Black plum in the base is the quiet surprise, it brings a dark, wine-like undertone that keeps the drydown from feeling purely clean. Musk holds it all close to the skin.
The Evolution
The opening hits within seconds. Tangerine and grapefruit arrive bright, almost sharp, a citrus burst that cools as it settles. Coriander appears within the first minute, adding its green, slightly peppery edge before the florals take over. By the ten-minute mark, gardenia and magnolia have moved front and center, their creamy white floral character softening the citrus without erasing it. The heart lasts roughly two hours, with ylang-ylang threading through and keeping everything warm. The drydown begins around hour three. Black plum emerges, musk follows, and the composition settles into something close and skin-like. The entire evolution stays intimate, moderate sillage, no dramatic projection, just a scent that lingers where you put it.
Cultural Impact
Botanic Whisper exists in a specific niche, accessible fragrance with enough complexity to reward attention. It sits alongside other editorial-adjacent body mists from fashion-adjacent brands, appealing to wearers who want something more considered than drugstore options but less commitment than full-strength niche releases. The combination of green-citrus and white florals positions it as a warm-weather option, though the musk base gives it year-round flexibility.
The House
And Other Stories is a contemporary fashion label that grew out of the H&M Group in 2010. The brand offers clothing, accessories and a modest line of personal fragrances that extend its narrative of modern storytelling. Its scent portfolio includes perfume oils such as Perle de Coco (2017) and body mists like Lemon Daydream, each designed to complement the brand’s emphasis on nuanced style and everyday elegance. The brand positions its fragrances as an accessible way for customers to add a personal olfactory layer to their curated wardrobes.

The scent feels like a sunlit conservatory in early morning, glass walls catching light, white flowers just beginning to open, the air still cool. Clean and airy, with a quiet warmth underneath. The kind of music that doesn't demand attention but holds a room.
