Spyros Drosopoulos
Spyros Drosopoulos entered the world in the Netherlands, grew up amid the sun‑kissed streets of Greece, and earned his academic credentials in Germany. He never followed a traditional perfume school; instead, he taught himself the chemistry of aroma while studying an unrelated discipline. In 2017 he launched Baruti, a boutique house that lets him translate his multicultural roots into scent. Baruti’s debut collection earned praise at the Perfume Lounge in Amsterdam, where Spyros introduced three new fragrances alongside his daughter Laura. He now shares his laboratory tricks with students at the Institute for Art and Olfaction, where he leads the bi‑annual Perfume Intensive. Over the past decade he has authored more than two dozen scents, each bearing his unmistakable curiosity and precision.

How Spyros composes
Spyros favors a hands‑on approach, blending natural extracts with synthetics to achieve balance and depth. He builds his compositions layer by layer, letting a base of woods and resins anchor brighter spices or floral bursts. He often returns to ingredients that echo his heritage—olive leaf, Mediterranean citrus, and aromatic herbs—while sprinkling in unexpected touches like smoked tea or mineral accords. His signatures include crisp, crystalline openings that dissolve into warm, lingering dry‑downs, inviting the wearer to explore each facet in turn.
Philosophy
What drives Spyros
Spyros believes that scent should act as a bridge between memory and place. He draws on Greek myths, Dutch pragmatism, and German rigor to craft aromas that feel both intimate and expansive. He treats each formula as a conversation with the raw material, listening for the moment when a note reveals its true character. This dialogue drives him to experiment with rare absolutes and unconventional accords, always aiming to capture a fleeting feeling before it fades.
