    Master Perfumer

    Juliette Karagueuzoglou

At thirteen, Juliette Karagueuzoglou smelled Christian Dior's Dune on a family member's wrist and discovered that someone actually created these things called perfumes. That single moment, sparked by an aunt who worked for the house, redirected her entire future. She earned a chemistry degree first, understanding that perfumery demands both creativity and science, then enrolled at ISIPCA in 1999 and later the IFF Perfume School in Grasse and New York in 2006. She began her career at Expressions Parfumées in Grasse before joining IFF in 2002, rising to Junior Perfumer of Fine Fragrances in Paris by 2007. The Fashion Group International recognized her as a Rising Star in 2010. Today, she creates for some of fashion's most storied houses, including Yves Saint Laurent, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Giorgio Armani, while bringing her vision to Memo Paris and Bon Parfumeur. She divides her time between Paris and New York, cities she considers twin beacons in her education.

    The signature

    How Juliette composes

Karagueuzoglou's signature lies in her ability to intertwine memory with materiality. She favors woody essences, particularly sandalwood, and has a deep affection for natural vanilla, which she describes as almost moving her to tears with its unexpected leathery sensuality. She approaches fragrance creation visually as well as olfactorily, often envisioning landscapes or palaces before selecting a single ingredient. Her technique involves connecting raw materials in unexpected ways, drawing from childhood sensory memories and the smell of her parents' house, of gardens, of wet asphalt after rain. Urban landscapes and the cities she explores on foot feed her curiosity and inform her compositions. She creates fragrances that feel both intimate and enduring, grounded in specific memories yet designed to resonate universally.

    Philosophy

    What drives Juliette

For Karagueuzoglou, perfumery is fundamentally an act of generosity. She creates what she calls olfactory markers, fragrances designed to evoke vivid memories, forge lasting connections, and stand the test of time. The ambition is lofty but grounded: a scent that offers a form of eternity to whoever wears it. She draws inspiration from childhood, from photographs, from the written word, and from simply walking through cities she loves. She challenges herself with exercises, like composing around raw materials that all start with the same letter, approaching each project as a concept first. Her work with Memo Paris began with an S, Sherwood Forest, and a dream of building a sandalwood palace among English trees. This is a perfumer who treats every brief as an opportunity to create something that outlasts the moment.
