Created exclusively for the Dutch retailer Perfume Lounge, Cuir Soyeux emerged from Francesca Bianchi’s 2019 studio in Amsterdam as a tribute to the tactile elegance of softened leather. The name, French for “soft leather,” captures the perfumer’s intent to blend the raw edge of a leather coat with the delicate whisper of spring flowers. Drawing on her art‑history background, Bianchi imagined a scent that reads like a handwritten note, where each ingredient is a sentence that speaks of memory and material.

Leather in perfumery often leans toward rugged or smoky, but Bianchi softened it with a powdery heart of orris, narcissus, heliotrope and magnolia, turning the accord into a velvety veil. The base of labdanum, bourbon vanilla, sandalwood and musk anchors the composition, giving it a warm, resinous finish that balances animalic depth with a comforting sweetness, a rare harmony that feels both nostalgic and contemporary.

At first spray, the fragrance announces itself with a crisp leather accord that feels like the inside of a newly broken‑in jacket, warm yet clean. Within minutes the powdery bouquet of orris, narcissus, heliotrope and magnolia unfurls, softening the edge and adding a floral‑sweet haze reminiscent of a sun‑lit conservatory. As the heart settles, the base emerges: labdanum and bourbon vanilla lay a resinous, slightly sweet foundation, while sandalwood and musk provide a creamy, lingering warmth. The drydown persists for eight to ten hours, the leather fading to a whisper while the vanilla‑sandalwood trail remains, leaving a subtle, almost tactile memory on the skin that can be sensed well into the night.

Cuir Soyeux quickly became a cult favorite among niche collectors, praised for its daring marriage of raw leather and powdery florals. Its exclusive launch through Perfume Lounge sparked conversations about gender‑fluid leather scents, and wearers often cite its ability to stand out in intimate settings without overwhelming the space.
