The Story
Why it exists.
Patchouli Magnetik is part of Maison Crivelli's Chocs Olfactifs collection, a line built on the brand's founding principle of sensory shock. Perfumer Quentin Bisch was tasked with translating the idea of electricity into scent: a moment of voltage, brightness, a crack of light across dark earth. The concept of patchouli as an unexpected source of that energy came from the material itself, its dual nature, both earthy and complex, became the electric element rather than something to balance against. Gardenia and white peach were chosen to create that initial brightness, the lightning before the storm, while leather and benzoin anchor the composition in something darker and more unexpected.

The Beginning
What makes Patchouli Magnetik unusual is the patchouli's treatment. In many fragrances, patchouli plays a supporting role, earthy, grounding, a base-layer workhorse. Here, patchouli Orpur is the protagonist, electrified by the milky sandalwood and luminous gardenia rather than softened by them. The result is a woody solar profile where dark and bright coexist in tension. The vanilla absolute Orpur and benzoin absolute add warmth and balsamic depth, but the leather accord is the surprise, adding a structural, almost animalic note that keeps the sweetness from becoming cloying. It's a composition that trusts contrast over harmony, and that tension is what makes it distinctive in the woody category.
The Evolution
The opening announces itself with tropical intent, gardenia and white peach create a lush, fruity-floral brightness that feels sun-warmed and immediate. Patchouli Orpur arrives quickly, not earthy or muted but electric, cutting through the sweetness like a voltage surge. The gardenia doesn't disappear; it blends with the patchouli, creating an unexpected tension between creamy floral and dark woody. By the heart phase, sandalwood Orpur enters the foreground, its milky warmth becoming the dominant character while leather accord adds an意外 structure beneath. Benzoin absolute provides a resinous, balsamic depth that keeps everything grounded. The drydown settles into sandalwood, vanilla, and benzoin, a warm, creamy base that lingers close to the skin for hours. The patchouli never fully disappears; it becomes part of the fabric, a low hum beneath the milky sandalwood that gives the drydown its distinctive character. On fabric, expect 8-10 hours easily; on skin, it transforms throughout the day, starting electric and bright, ending warm and intimate.
Cultural Impact
Maison Crivelli occupies a distinctive space in contemporary niche perfumery, conceptual enough to intrigue fragrance enthusiasts, wearable enough to build a broader audience. Patchouli Magnetik's combination of electric patchouli with milky sandalwood and luminous gardenia appeals to those seeking something unusual without venturing into avant-garde territory. The strong longevity and sillage ratings reflect a fragrance that makes a statement, positioning it as a choice for evening wear and cooler seasons rather than daily office use. As the brand's 2022 release in the Chocs Olfactifs collection, it continues the house's commitment to unexpected contrasts and sensory surprises.
The House
France · Est. 2018
Thibaud Crivelli launched his house in 2018 built on a single concept: each fragrance begins with a sensory "shock" — an unexpected moment that rewired perception. Absinthe in a Moroccan souk. Iris in a Tokyo rain. The compositions translate these epiphanies into wearable scent, bridging conceptual niche perfumery with genuine elegance. A new house, but one with a clear creative thesis.

The opening hours of Patchouli Magnetik feel like standing in a tropical garden as lightning cracks the sky, electric, luminous, charged with potential. As it settles into the drydown, the mood shifts to something warmer, closer, like the heat radiating from sun-warmed wood after the storm passes. The playlist mirrors that arc: atmospheric and slightly dangerous, then warm and intimate.
