The Story of Benzoin absolute Orpur®
Benzoin absolute Orpur® captures the warm, balsamic soul of Laos forests. This luxurious material delivers rich vanilla-like sweetness with deep resinous warmth, making it a prized foundation note in fine perfumery since ancient trade routes first carried its precious resin eastward.
Heritage
Benzoin entered Western perfume traditions along ancient spice routes connecting Southeast Asia to the Mediterranean. Ancient Chinese and Egyptian texts describe benzoin as sacred incense used in temples and burial rituals. Historical records show merchants imported benzoin from Borneo, Java, and Siam as early as the ninth century. French colonialera traders establishedbenzoin cultivation as a cash crop in Laos, where the practice remains deeply embedded in local culture. Laos, historically called the land of a million elephants, became benzoin's primary global source due to its ideal tropical climate for Styrax trees. Traditional Laos harvesters still follow ancestral tapping methods passed through generations. The resin earned the name Orpur, meaning pure gold in French, reflecting its historical value comparable to precious metals on ancient trade routes.
