The Story
Why it exists.
Clément Gavarry designed Cherry Stem around a single, charged gesture: the act of tying a cherry stem with your tongue. Masterful, effortless, intriguing, those were the words he kept coming back to. Not the cherry itself. The motion. The implication of skill hidden beneath something sweet.

The Beginning
Clément Gavarry designed Cherry Stem around a single, charged gesture: the act of tying a cherry stem with your tongue. Masterful, effortless, intriguing, those were the words he kept coming back to. Not the cherry itself. The motion. The implication of skill hidden beneath something sweet.
That tension, sweet on the surface, sharp underneath, shapes the entire pyramid. Black cherry opens with the lacquered darkness of just-picked fruit, but cognac and orange brandy introduce a boozy warmth that immediately complicates the picture. Sugared jasmine and plum nectar don't soften it. They deepen it. The leather and ebony wood base arrives late and refuses to apologize.
The Evolution
Cherry Stem hits skin with the dark immediacy of a cherry liqueur, boozy, fruity, unapologetically sweet. The cognac and orange brandy keep it warm at the edges. Within 20 minutes, the plum nectar rounds everything out, adding a lushness that slows the composition down. The jasmine appears next, white and slightly green against the fruit, the way a flower can smell when it doesn't want to be floral. By the second hour, leather and ebony wood claim the surface. The sweetness doesn't disappear, it recedes, settling into the base like something that finished speaking but isn't leaving. The drydown holds for a full workday on most skin types, intimate and close, a skin scent in the truest sense.
Cultural Impact
Cherry Stem arrives at a moment when fruity-leathery compositions are gaining traction in niche and mass fragrance circles alike. The 2025 release taps into the ongoing cultural appreciation for nuanced, narrative-driven scents that do more than smell pleasant. Phlur's approach of pairing each fragrance with an illustrated story and a conceptual identity reflects a broader industry shift toward fragrance as cultural artifact rather than mere personal grooming product. The cherry note itself carries weight in perfumery history, typically associated with youthful or gourmand compositions; Cherry Stem repositions it as something more mature and complex, bridging the gap between casual wear and occasion dressing.

Dark fruit and warm leather. Something that doesn't announce itself but marks the room after. A slow reveal, like pulling a match from a book of matches.
