The Story
Why it exists.
PROVENCE was born from Nissaba’s quest to bottle the spirit of the Durance Valley’s high‑altitude herb fields. The house travelled to Haute Provence, where lavender, clary sage and hyssop grow under a clear sky, and harvested the five iconic plants that define the region. Sébastien Cresp translated those raw extracts into a modern fougère, launching the scent in 2023 as the fourth single‑origin offering from the Swiss label.

The Beginning
PROVENCE was born from Nissaba’s quest to bottle the spirit of the Durance Valley’s high‑altitude herb fields. The house travelled to Haute Provence, where lavender, clary sage and hyssop grow under a clear sky, and harvested the five iconic plants that define the region. Sébastien Cresp translated those raw extracts into a modern fougère, launching the scent in 2023 as the fourth single‑origin offering from the Swiss label.
Hyssop takes centre stage, a rare choice that injects a camphorous, slightly tannic edge, setting the fragrance apart from typical lavender‑driven fougères. The diva lavender absolute adds a rich, floral intensity that avoids the usual soapy feel, while the peppery coriander and black pepper sharpen the opening. Nutmeg in the base gives a subtle, lingering warmth that grounds the green burst.
The Evolution
At first spray, bergamot flashes bright, instantly followed by a crisp mint rush that feels like a cool mountain stream. Black pepper and coriander add a quick, peppery sting, while hyssop bursts forward, its camphor‑rich green note dominating the first ten minutes. As the top fades, the heart unfurls, diva lavender blooms with a lush, slightly powdery richness, and clary sage adds an herbaceous depth that feels like a sun‑warmed field. By the half‑hour mark the peppery edge softens, letting the lavender linger. The dry‑down settles into a warm nutmeg amber that clings to skin for the remaining six hours, a subtle, almost woody glow that whispers of Provençal evenings.
Cultural Impact
Since its 2023 debut, PROVENCE has become a quiet favorite among fans of aromatic fougères, praised for its bold hyssop focus. Wearers note its ability to evoke Provençal fields without feeling clichéd, positioning it as a modern field‑note that bridges classic green freshness with a sophisticated spice edge.
The House
Switzerland
Nissaba is a Swiss fragrance house that builds each scent from the raw material of a single geographic source. The brand translates the character of a place—its soil, climate and harvest traditions—into a perfume that reads like a field note. Launched by former Firmenich perfumer Sébastien Tissot, Nissaba pairs transparent sourcing with a modest retail footprint that includes Selfridges in London and the Barnes Fragrance Fair. Its catalogue, which began in 2022, now spans eight single‑origin creations, each named after the land that supplies its key ingredient.

Imagine a sun‑lit Provençal field set to a breezy French pop melody; the mint sparkles like a high‑note synth, the lavender hums warm strings, and the nutmeg settles as a low‑key bass.
