A house, in its own words
The story of Zanini begins with a small team of Italian fragrance enthusiasts who, around 2021, decided to move beyond conventional perfume marketing and focus on scent as an experiential medium. Their first public launch arrived in 2023 with a modest line that emphasized handcrafted processes and a close relationship with local ingredient suppliers. Early press coverage highlighted the brand’s intent to create "olfactory landscapes," a phrase that quickly entered the niche perfume conversation. In 2024 the house introduced Rosa Umami, a composition that blended fresh rose accords with a subtle umami nuance, earning praise for its daring juxtaposition. The following year proved prolific: Essere Gentile arrived as a gentle, introspective scent; Radici explored earthy roots; Ora dopo Ora captured the passage of time through layered citrus and woody notes; Bar evoked the quiet atmosphere of an intimate café; In principio offered a minimalist opening reminiscent of a sunrise; Daphne Meli celebrated Mediterranean honey; Cy, Quel che resta di un kevalam and Io Resisto! rounded out a series of releases that each pursued a distinct narrative thread. Throughout these years, Zanini has participated in select art exhibitions, presenting scent installations that align with its goal of evoking the same response as a visual artwork. The brand’s growth remains modest, with each launch limited to a few thousand bottles, reinforcing a focus on quality over volume. While still young, Zanini’s timeline reflects a steady accumulation of thoughtful releases that have gradually built a reputation for conceptual depth within Italy’s niche perfume community. Zanini’s creative vision rests on the belief that scent can function as a portal to memory and feeling, much like a painting or a landscape photograph. The brand states that its project goal is to evoke experiences and stimulate emotions comparable to those felt when encountering a work of art or a captivating landscape. To achieve this, Zanini collaborates with visual artists, architects and writers, allowing each fragrance to inherit a narrative seed from another discipline. The house values transparency in ingredient sourcing, preferring natural extracts that are harvested with respect for biodiversity. Sustainability informs packaging decisions, and the brand seeks to minimize waste by using recyclable materials and refillable options where possible. Zanini also embraces a limited‑edition mindset, believing that scarcity encourages a deeper personal connection between the wearer and the scent. This philosophy translates into a catalog where each bottle tells a story, and each story is meant to unfold over time on the skin, inviting contemplation rather than instant gratification.
