The evolution

The whiskey deepens, becomes less boozy and more resinous. The sweetness shifts from spun sugar to caramel, the burnt edge mellowing into something warmer. By hour three, the sillage has softened. The gunpowder is still there, it's always there, but it's no longer the loudest voice. It becomes the backbone of a warm, sweet, smoky cloud that stays close to the skin for hours. Eight hours in, gunpowder lingers at the edge like a fading ember, tobacco and caramel fused into a warm, sweet smoke that refuses to fully disappear.
