Heritage
A house, in its own words
Urban Scents was founded by two fragrance specialists, Marie Urban Le Febvre and Alexander Urban, who turned a shared vision into a brand that quickly found a place among Germany’s independent perfumers. The pair announced the launch of the house in the mid‑2010s, positioning it as a laboratory for story‑centric compositions. Their first public offerings arrived in 2016, when Desert Rose and Gunpowder Cologne entered the market. Both fragrances received attention from niche‑fragrance reviewers for their distinctive character: Desert Rose blended rose with dry, mineral notes, while Gunpowder Cologne evoked smoky accords reminiscent of old ammunition factories. In 2017 the line expanded with Vetiver Reunion, a woody‑green scent that highlighted the brand’s willingness to revisit traditional ingredients through a contemporary lens. The following year brought Dark Vanilla, a gourmand piece that balanced sweet vanilla with a hint of bitter spice, and Bliss Me, a lighter, floral composition. 2019 saw the release of Ber Cavok, a complex oud‑focused fragrance that demonstrated the house’s growing confidence in handling rare materials. After a brief pause, Urban Scents returned in 2024 with Vegan Musk, a plant‑based alternative that underscored the brand’s responsiveness to evolving consumer values. Over the years the house has maintained a modest but steady output, allowing each launch to receive focused promotion and critical appraisal. The founders continue to work closely with each perfume, ensuring that the creative direction stays true to their original intent while adapting to new trends in sustainability and ingredient sourcing.
The creative vision at Urban Scents rests on the idea that a fragrance should tell a story that listeners can experience without words. Marie Urban Le Febvre and Alexander Urban emphasize authenticity, choosing raw materials that convey a clear emotional cue. The brand values transparency, often noting the origin of key ingredients such as Turkish rose or Indonesian oud. Sustainability entered the conversation in 2023, prompting the development of Vegan Musk, a formula that replaces animal‑derived musks with botanical alternatives while preserving the familiar depth of traditional musk. Urban Scents also believes that a perfume’s life extends beyond the bottle; the house encourages wearers to explore the scent in different contexts, from city streets to quiet evenings, to discover how the composition evolves on skin. This approach reflects a broader commitment to craftsmanship over mass appeal, allowing the house to experiment with niche themes without the pressure of mainstream market trends.
