The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Wooood arrived in 2025 as part of Unscripted's debut catalog, a fresh entry from a house still establishing its catalog. The composition leans into a tension that defines the scent: freshness colliding with depth, brightness set against smoke. Cool lavender and golden saffron up top create an almost clean opening, the kind of lift that feels herbal and slightly cool against the skin. Nutmeg enters at the heart, warm and faintly sweet, while oud sits unusually in the middle rather than anchoring the base. The oud here reads dry and papery, more like weathered wood than the heavy smoke that oud-forward compositions often lean on. Below, patchouli and musk settle into a darker, denser register, grounding the composition with a soft animal undertone that lingers close.
The oud sits in the heart rather than the base, which is the unusual move here. Wooood uses it as a bridge between the bright, almost clean opening and the darker patchouli-musk finish. Lavender and saffron give the first impression a lifted, aromatic brightness, their cool herbal and golden warmth working in tandem before they begin to soften. Then the oud complicates things, slipping underneath with a dry woodiness that frames the composition rather than dominating it.
The evolution
The opening moves quickly. Lavender's cool herbal lift has already begun to soften, and saffron's golden warmth settles into something less sharp, more like suede left in afternoon light. The transition into the heart happens quietly, almost without announcement. Nutmeg arrives first, warm and faintly sweet, then oud surfaces underneath, not as a wall of smoke but as a dry, almost papery wood that frames everything around it. The middle hour is the fragrance's center of gravity, dense without being heavy, rich without tipping into excess. Patchouli begins its slow work as time passes, darkening the edges, bringing the musk forward, and gradually pulling the composition closer to skin. Eventually, the top-note brightness has largely faded, and what's left is warm spice, dry wood, and a soft animal undertone from the musk.
Cultural impact
Wooood sits within Unscripted's 2025 debut wave, an early entry in a catalog still being defined. The contrast structure runs through the composition itself: bright against deep, fresh against smoky, the lift of lavender and saffron set against the weight of patchouli and musk. That same logic shapes how the fragrance wears, moving from an aromatic, almost clean opening into a denser, warmer drydown without ever losing the sense of two distinct registers in conversation.
