The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Wood Of Amber arrived in 2023 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a series that draws from established compositions in the luxury fragrance world. The reference here is the Clive Christian XXI Art Deco Amberwood, a release known for its layered amber-woody character and dense, resinous warmth. Wood Of Amber takes that blueprint and renders it through its own lens, keeping the profile approachable while retaining the richness that makes amberwoods so compelling. The result is a composition that reads as opulent without requiring the wearer to weigh the cost of a bottle. It sits comfortably as a daily-wear option for someone drawn to heavier, more textured fragrances.
What makes the structure interesting is the breadth of the pyramid. Sixteen notes spanning woody bases (cypriol, cashmere wood, oud), resinous anchors (labdanum, orris, tobacco), and modern synthetics like Ambroxan and Helvetolide. The blend of classical naturals with contemporary musks gives the composition a layered quality, with each material pulling its own weight. Pink pepper and bergamot brighten the top without committing to a traditional citrus opening, and sage adds a green, slightly herbal lift early on.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes lean bright and green, with bergamot and angelica doing the lifting work while pink pepper adds a subtle bite. The pink pepper doesn't shout. It grazes. Sage and orris root pull things toward something drier and more botanical, a kind of powdered greenery that doesn't feel herbal so much as architectural. As the hours pass, the woody architecture takes over. Cypriol and cashmere wood form the spine, while tonka bean and vanilla warm the base without making it gourmand. Ambroxan and Helvetolide do the modern heavy lifting here, keeping the skin scent present without the composition turning flat. Tobacco sits underneath, never foregrounded, more of a warmth than a note. The drydown is where this earns its keep.
Cultural impact
Wood Of Amber sits in The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a series that draws on recognisable high-end compositions and reworks them for broader wear. Its reference point, Clive Christian's XXI Art Deco Amberwood, is a release defined by its layered amber-woody character and dense, resinous warmth, and this version takes that blueprint and renders it through its own lens. The fragrance reads as a wardrobe staple rather than a statement piece: heavy enough to register, restrained enough for repeated wear. It's the kind of scent that settles into a rotation without demanding attention, yet still leaves a trail worth noticing.
