The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Woman of Tom arrived in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, a collection built around reinterpreting beloved compositions. The reference here is Tommy Girl, the 1996 Tommy Hilfiger release that helped define a particular strain of clean, breezy fragrance. The house studies the architecture of the original, then reconstructs it with ingredients that hold up at a workable price point while staying true to the feeling that made the source iconic. For a scent this specific, the challenge was keeping the transparent, apple-skin freshness that made the original feel like clean laundry on a summer morning. The opening has to hit that bright, just-stepped-out-of-the-shower note before anything else gets a chance to register.
What makes the structure work is the density of the heart. This one piles on: mandarin and grapefruit layered over magnolia, jasmine, rose, and lily, with honeysuckle threading through like a sweetness you can't quite place. The florals aren't arranged in a neat line; they tumble over each other, the magnolia creamy and soft, the jasmine adding a soapy, slightly indolic warmth, the rose giving the whole heart a pink blush underneath. Honeysuckle weaves through with a honeyed, almost sticky sweetness that makes the floral accord feel edible without veering into gourmand territory.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are almost entirely citrus and green: grapefruit and lemon cut through the apple blossom like cold water, with mint adding a cool edge that makes the opening feel more athletic than floral. Honeysuckle shows up early, sweet and almost dewy, before the white florals take their turn. Magnolia arrives first, soft and creamy, then jasmine brings that soapy, slightly indolic warmth that signals this is going somewhere with body. Rose slips in underneath, giving the heart a pink blush. The leather is subtle here, more texture than statement, a dry suede lining under all the petals. By the second hour, the florals have softened and the cedar and sandalwood start to assert themselves. The wood is clean, slightly creamy from the sandalwood, and it carries the dried-down florals steadily into the late afternoon.
Cultural impact
Woman of Tom exists as part of a broader conversation about how classic fragrance profiles get carried forward. For wearers who knew the 1996 original, it offers a way back to that specific bright, clean, just-showered feeling, the kind of scent that defined a particular American moment in the mid-nineties. For new wearers discovering it fresh, it works as a standalone: a bright, well-constructed floral-fruity that doesn't need any prior reference to land. The composition holds up on its own terms, with a transparent opening, a generous floral heart, and a woody base that gives it enough structure to wear beyond a single afternoon.
