The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Uplifting Air arrived in 2023 from The Dua Brand, composed by Mahsam Raza. It belongs to the Original Blend Collection. Raza set out to bottle a specific feeling: that moment when you step outside after rain, or open a window to a cool morning, and the air itself feels like a reset button. The composition leans on a palette built for clarity. Aldehydes lift the opening into that bright, almost soapy sparkle that makes the first spray feel like a gust through an open window. Citrus notes, lemon zest sharp at the front and mandarin softer at the edges, provide the cheerful snap that defines the top accord. Green elements settle in soon after: an air accord that mimics the weightlessness of moving wind, and grass that reads as cool and just-cut rather than heavy or pastoral.
What's interesting here is the use of an actual 'Air Accord' alongside aldehydes, which traditionally do the heavy lifting of creating that fresh, ozonic sensation in perfumery. Aldehydes give scents their soapy sparkle and lift, but pairing them with grass and lily of the valley grounds the composition in something organic rather than purely synthetic. The vanilla in the base is an unexpected move, softening what could otherwise read as a sharp, clean composition into something with a pulse.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are all aldehyde fizz and citrus snap, lemon zest bright enough to cut through morning fog. Mandarin sweetens the edges without making it fruity. Then the air accord and grass arrive together, and the scent shifts from clean to green, like a lawn after mowing. Lily of the valley threads through the heart, adding a dewy floral whisper. The aldehydes gradually step back over the first hour, letting the green notes take the lead, and the whole composition settles into a softer, more breath-like quality. Around the two-hour mark, vetiver and vanilla settle in. The vanilla is dry, not gourmand, more of a warmth than a sweetness. Vetiver grounds the base with a clean, earthy pull that keeps the vanilla from drifting into pastry territory. Musk carries the final hours, keeping the whole thing hovering just above skin rather than settling into it.
Cultural impact
Uplifting Air takes on a familiar category of fresh, airy fragrances and gives it a particular shape. The aldehyde-led opening places it in conversation with classic clean fragrances, but the green heart of air, grass, and lily of the valley pushes the scent toward something more outdoors-leaning. Vanilla and vetiver in the base keep the drydown warm and grounded rather than letting it dissolve into pure soap. The combination makes it versatile across settings, from a morning start to a casual evening, and the moderate projection keeps it present without demanding attention.
