Unbelievable landed in 2017 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a line built around taking well-known luxury compositions and reconstructing them for a wider audience. This one goes straight at Tom Ford's Fucking Fabulous, that polarizing private blend leather that became a reference point for the entire bitter-almond-meets-suede conversation. The Dua Brand's formula rebuilds the architecture with bitter almond oil, clary sage, orris root, cashmeran, suede leather, and Venezuelan tonka bean. The brand doesn't hide the source. It's right there in the collection name and the F-word in the product title.
What makes this composition worth pulling apart is the bitter almond and suede pairing, two materials that don't obviously belong together and shouldn't work as well as they do. Bitter almond oil carries that characteristic bite, reading as marzipan and cherry pit and something faintly confectionery. On its own it's sharp, almost lacquered. Suede in modern perfumery is a constructed accord, and The Dua Brand builds theirs on cashmeran and leather bases that aim for the warmth of nubuck.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes belong to bitter almond. It hits sharp, almost lacquered, with that marzipan-cherry-pit bite. Clary sage underneath keeps it from reading as food. By the 2-hour mark the composition has fully settled into its leather identity. The almond is still there but it's been absorbed into the suede, no longer separate.
