The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Dua Brand launched Spice It Up With Belgian Choco in 2021 as part of its Original Blend Collection, a line of hybrid compositions that draws from multiple reference points. This one pulls from two sources: the brand's own Belgian Choco Truffle and Viktor & Rolf's Spicebomb, the spicy men's fragrance built around a structure of pink pepper, cinnamon, saffron, and paprika. The result is a composition that feeds the chocolate gourmand one side of your brain and the warm-spicy bomb the other. The concept is straightforward: a hybrid that takes the DNA of both originals, recombines them, and arrives in extrait concentration. Pink pepper, cinnamon, saffron, and paprika bring the heat from the Spicebomb side.
What's interesting here is the structural argument. Spicebomb's DNA lives in the heart: pink pepper, cinnamon, saffron, paprika, and elemi doing the spicy scaffolding, plus grapefruit and bergamot adding a bright top edge that keeps the composition from drowning in sugar. Then the Belgian Choco Truffle half takes over below, layering milk chocolate, caramel, and vanilla into a gourmand base that grounds the whole thing.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are bright, almost misleading. Caramel and vanilla lift off the skin with a sugary lift, grapefruit and bergamot slicing through, the whole thing reading closer to a citrus gourmand than anything leather-bound. The citrus keeps the opening from collapsing into pure sweetness, and the vanilla underneath stays creamy rather than syrupy. Then the heart takes over. Pink pepper and cinnamon arrive with a real bite. Paprika and saffron deepen the heat, and suddenly the composition has a savory, almost smoky undercurrent. Elemi threads through the spices with a resinous flicker that keeps the warmth from going flat. The chocolate makes its entrance in the second hour, wrapping around the spices, toning them down while adding a milky, creamy weight. By hour three or four, you're sitting in the leather-tobacco drydown.
Cultural impact
Spice It Up With Belgian Choco sits at an interesting intersection in the Dua Brand's catalog: it is one of the house's hybrid compositions, openly drawing from both its own Belgian Choco Truffle and Viktor & Rolf's Spicebomb. The composition layers milk chocolate, caramel, and vanilla against a spicy architecture of pink pepper, cinnamon, saffron, paprika, and elemi, then grounds everything in leather, tobacco, and vetiver. The chocolate base softens the spice architecture without losing it, making this a practical pick for cold-weather gourmands.
