The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lunar Sweet Treat is The Dua Brand's 2026 entry in the Inspired Expression collection, and the inspiration is unmistakable. Mooncake, the pastry built around salted egg yolk, mung bean, and lotus seed, is one of the more challenging scent profiles in gourmand perfumery. It's a dish that resists easy translation, because every component carries weight. The yolk is savoury and dense, the mung bean vegetal and grounded, the lotus seed starchy and soft. Get the balance wrong and the whole thing tips into something cloying or, worse, something that smells like a kitchen rather than something worth wearing. The Dua Brand took that risk and committed. The goal here was never subtlety. It was translation.
Salted egg yolk is the boldest choice in the pyramid and the one that defines the composition. In a category crowded with caramel and honey warmth, salted egg yolk brings a savoury, custardy richness that shifts the entire structure. It's the note that makes this fragrance feel less like a dessert and more like a dish. Combined with mung bean, which reads almost nutty and vegetal, the fragrance avoids the trap of simple sugar sweetness. The lotus seed adds a quiet, starchy softness that bridges the savoury and the sweet, while honey and vanilla do the obvious work of making it wearable.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are all salt and sugar fighting for the same space. The egg yolk comes through warm and dense, almost savoury, the way a fresh mooncake smells before you even break the crust. Honey arrives fast underneath it, sticky and golden, and the mung bean sits at the edge giving everything a slightly vegetal, grounded quality. The opening has weight to it, a heaviness that fills the air immediately, and the contrast between the salt of the yolk and the sweetness of the honey creates a push-pull that keeps you leaning in. By the 30-minute mark the sugar and salt settle into an accord, and the lotus seed softens the whole thing out. The sharper edges of the opening melt into something rounder, more unified, and the fragrance starts to feel less like a list of notes and more like a single impression.
Cultural impact
Lunar Sweet Treat is a fragrance that leads with salted egg yolk and mung bean, and that alone sets it apart from most of what's available in the gourmand space. A composition built around those two notes is a different proposition entirely, closer to a dish than a dessert, and it doesn't translate easily into the language of mainstream perfumery. For wearers familiar with mooncake, it's a near-direct translation, the kind of scent that triggers an immediate, visceral recognition.
